DO NOT PURCHASE! Be Told!!(22/02/2012)
The clips are far to thick for any form or style of brass i've been able to find. RP, winchester, starline, S&B....None of it will clip into these rings. expensive junk sadly....
Must use a Mooner Tool(08/04/2012)
Yes they are tight but there is a reason the rounds are more stable adding to a quicker re-load for competition. I use the Ranch style for practice and fun. Great Clip
Not to use this product if speed is what(07/06/2010)
The only bright spot is that the rounds snap in and out of the clip easily, past that they are undersized for the new N frame night guard revolver. They work but hard to push into the cylinder. I will not use these for USPSA .
Worked Flawlessly in non-PC 646 (10/12/2017)
When I acquired my non-PC 646 I purchased these .035" thickness moon clips as well as the "thick" .042" . Shooting mixed headstamp range pickup brass and single headstamp once-fired brass these moonclips worked flawlessly . They became easier to load the more I used them. In my pistol I saw no advantage in the "thick" moonclips and will purchase only these 646N/40 S&W clips in the future.
"I would not buy moonies" George Jetson(11/07/2012)
Would not buy moonclips, poor fit for any brand of brass used will not fit on mooner/demooner tool.
Won't fit(15/03/2013)
Despite 627 being in the description, they certainly don't fit my 627, way too big.
These don't work(26/05/2013)
These moon clips are not even close to factory moon clips. They do not work with PMC brass, and we were only able to fit Magtech with some serious force. They are too tight to use with my BMT mooner - can get 6 rounds loaded, and then it is impossible to load the last two. The clips will bend if you try to force the last rounds in and they won't load into the revolver... I will be looking for a better product.
Should have read the reviews(05/05/2018)
As other reviews have said, no brand of brass seems to work well. I was able to get 4 of the 10 clips loaded with a mooner, but the others are too tight. I can get a few rounds loaded into the clip, but the rest will not. Using a demooner to get them out bends the clips and dents the brass.
Do Not Work(04/01/2012)
I could not get Winchester,Remington or Star-line brass to go in these clips without bending them.I can use the 3 that came with my 627 without a problem.
Don't Fit(05/01/2012)
Six rounds will go into the clips just fine but the clips will flex so that the last two spots will close up and not let the rounds go in. Don't know if it's just a bad batch or they are just stamped out the wrong size
Don't waste your money(15/03/2014)
Tried various brands of ammo, none fit. Clips are to small ,warp when they are loaded. Will not fit in revolver cylinder. These clips are worthless.
Moon Clips for 627 Pro(29/08/2014)
Mixed results. I only have one brand of ammo on hand, Blazer Brass. These clips hold that ammo perfectly. Just enough wiggle to allow the ammo to drop into the cylinder. One loaded clip needed to be pushed in the last 7/16" or so, it would not drop freely into place.
I bought 5 and mangled the 4th one I tried to load. I was using a C.C.W. Demooner tool and things got out of hand and the moon clip flexed or something and it tried to grip the case body. Case is damaged and clip is a pretzel with no salt. I found I have to hold the partially loaded clip and carefully guide the rim of the case into place and be very gentle on the last two rounds. There is plenty of leverage to mangle the clip if you force it.
I am up in the air on reordering. These clips mic out at 0.022-0.0225", I am wondering if another brand of 0.025 clip might give better results. On the gripping hand they hold better than the three that came with the gun, they are so sloppy I have trouble inserting them. Reminder, ONE brand of brass tested so far so take with a grain of salt.
Too Many Rounds For A Moon Clip(14/06/2015)
In the past I have used 45 ACP moon clips for a 625 and found them most satisfactory. I found the 38 calibre a bit on the thin side and fragile. The biggest problem was that 38 or 38 mag cartridges would not fit in the curvature of the clip. This required some patient filing at the very tips of the cartridge entry point to allow the cartridge to snap into the clip. These will work but a lot of fooling around is required. Perhaps HKS could produce an eight round speed loader for the 627 this would be a much better option. They make a seven round unit for the 686. I would not purchase any more of these or recommend them.
JUNK DO NOT BUY!!!(08/08/2015)
I purchased 15 of these when I got my 627. I tried to use them tonight as I was getting ready for my first steel challenge match in the morning. Its my fault I have had these for a long time without taking them out of the bag. My wife and I were going to use our revolvers. The S&W factory clips worked/loaded great. These clips were too small in the center to fit over the center stud on my moon clip tool. With some effort they would slide over. Essentially ruining the nice red anodized finished of my tool. Once over the stud the rounds snapped in very hard and the clip distorted. I was not able to get the loaded clip in the cylinder. These are garbage! I also have a new 3" cut in my finger from trying to use this junk. This is the only review I have ever written about any product I purchased online. Please do not buy these! I am so deeply sadden and angry that I didn't check these sooner. My shoot is already ruined.
It is different(17/02/2011)
The new badge is manufactured from a different steel , than it made before. Still good, but is different.
Know what your using it for(11/04/2012)
Works great with Federal Premium ammunition which is what I keep for home defense and why I bought them. But if you use cheap ammo like PMC or Magtech, this is not the solution. They will get all bent up and not load into your cylindar. So if you use cheap stuff at the range or plinking like I do, then get a speedloader. I would have only buy the 5 pack in hindsight.
looks interesting - does not work(22/05/2010)
Bought this to try with my S&W 686. Was very difficult to load 38's into the clips. Once the clips were loaded it was very easy to load the rounds into the cylinder. But I could not get the cylinder to close. With the clip in place the rounds protrude just enough to prevent the cylinder from closing. It might work if you have a very worn gun.
Response to bad review(22/06/2010)
the other review clearly was not using these properly. your cylinder has to be designed from the factory to accept moonclips or you have to have it cut to accept them. these will NOT work if you just have a standard cylinder!
Not Quite Right(07/10/2014)
These moon clips ALMOST do the job. Stacked with moon clips from Smith & Wesson, they appear to be identical. However, loading them and trying to use them reveals that some tiny tolerance is off. They are unusually hard to load and they hold the cartridges too tightly and misaligned to allow insertion into the cylinder. Their price is very attractive compared to other moon clips...but they are worth nothing if they do not work.
Close but no cigar.(10/08/2016)
These clips grip the bullet too tight and require slight modification in order for them to fit the cylinder correctly. After opening the clip a little with a Dremel Tool and a little reaming out, these clips can be made to work fine.
Bad Choice(28/02/2018)
As in another review these things are just too tight. They wouldn't even fit into my 586 L-Comp cylinder. Money wasted here.
