Switch From Percussion To Cartridge By Changing Cylinders
Six-round conversion cylinder converts steel frame, cap and ball revolvers to modern centerfire. Patterned after an original Remington design for a drop-in fit. Conversion Cylinder for 1847 Walker(14/02/2018)
Ordered one of these for my Uberti 1847 Walker and so glad I did. This cylinder fits and functions perfectly and now allows me to shoot 45LC Cowboy Loads. Cleanup is obviously much easier than with black powder and much less smoke. Also, I think it is actually a bit quicker to load even though you have to practically disassemble the pistol. The price of these conversion cylinders may seem a bit high for just a cylinder, but trust me, they are very well worth the advantages you get, in my opinion.
needs to be fit by a gunsmith to work(18/10/2009)
this is not a drop in cylinder conversion. lots of work went into this conversion to make it fit. Gunsmithing is necessary!
Ruger Old Army Conversion(21/01/2012)
My experience was totally different. Literally dropped in just like the original. It is quite accurate with hand loads and the pistol can easily handle velocities up near 1000fps which is about 10% above cowboy loads. The Ruger Old Army is the only one I would push the load as it's so beefy and the converter shows no abnormal wear on the recoil shield after over 500 rds.
Be Warned!(05/11/2009)
A customer of mine purchased one of these cylinders and it spit out lead shavings to the sides with enough force to penetrate the skin at 10'(first hand testimony here!). When contacted, the company disclosed that this is a "common issue" with their conversion cylinders and that the revolver and cylinder must be returned to the company for repair. Having a gunsmith work on it will void the warranty. Don't recall reading this in their manual, however.
Perfect fit works as they say(12/06/2012)
This is a perfect solution to convert your Remington New Army .44 percussion to .45 Colt (LC), they typically drop in with no fitting required and are perfectly timed in a new or very well maintained pistol. Those that claim to have issues have a poorly maintained pistol or have no knowledge of this conversion process. The R&D Cylinders work as advertised and are great! I have several for my Remington New Army Pietta's and for my Ruger Old Army .45 Love them!
excellent product I love it(03/12/2014)
Well Done(09/06/2015)
This conversion fit nice and snug in my Peitta.
It is finished better than the original revolver.
It really shot well and I experienced no problems.
You will need to keep a rod or other item around to push some of the cases out after firing it a bunch depending on how dirty your ammo is.
The instructions say to limit the ammo to black powder pressures and you will need to follow that because the locking notches are right at the thinnest part of the cylinder.
The main drawback and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that there are no safety notches like the original cylinder that the hammer could rest in.
I really like the look of the original cap and ball revolvers but black powder IS dirty and one doesn't always have time to clean right away.
Love this cylinder(02/12/2016)
I own 2 Pietta 1858 Remingtons and bought one of these for the target one and it is a pleasure to shoot and handle. I use the loading lever to puncture through the chamber's to eject the brass. It is a very good snug fit so care must be taken when inserting back into the gun.
Great Product!(16/08/2014)
The fit is factory tight with no filing, finish matches the Ruger Old Army SS and function of this product is perfect. When you get tired of cleaning BP you can switch to Smokeless powder and let the fun begin. I bought it out right for myself, Cowboy shooting.
