By far the best mount for M44!!!(28/03/2010)
This is by far the best mount for the M44 with zero modification to the bolt. It requires the use of either a pistol scope, scout scope, or one with extended eye relief. I chose the Osprey 2-7x32 pistol scope primarily because I couldn't justify spending a whole lot more on a scope and scope mount than I did for my M44. First, the installation was pretty easy, which required the removal of the rear sight leaf. This particular scope base allows for windage and elevation adjustments to be made in addition to the adjustments one can do on the actual scope itself. One of the hex screws sits vertically in the scope mount and requires the removal of the scope in order to adjust. This was very much needed as the scope mount was angled downward when first installed on my rifle. I was able to bring the scope level by adjusting that screw. There are also 4 smaller hex screws (2 on each side) that can be seen in the picture of the mount. These can be used for windage adjustments. I struggled I bit when trying to zero my scope at first. My problem was that I needed to bring the scope elevation down and the windage right and ran out of adjustment on my scope. I made a few trips to the range until I was able to get some help. I had my girlfriend hold the rifle steady while looking through the scope and I simply adjusted these hex screws on the side of the mount until it aligned my cross hairs with my first shot. From that point, I was able to zero the scope with no problems. This scope mount is well machined and far better quality than the very cheaply made and inexpensive mounts I have seen on the market. The scope and mount have been a great combo and have held up even under the heavy recoil of this great rifle. I have put about 50 rounds through my M44 with no change in zero. I am deeply impressed by this scope mount and the M44 has once again become one of my favorite rifles to shoot. [...]
Good not perfect(02/10/2017)
Requires a lot of fine adjustment for some reason could not get mine adjusted properly. Contact manufacturer customer service was horrendous. Will never buy from them again
Holds zero(14/01/2011)
Took great care to degrease and lock tite; followed instructions and they seemed straightforward enough. Laser boresighting showed the mount relatively close to center...a big surprise. Steel rings seem high quality enough. Mounted a Millet 1" red dot to it on a MN 91/30 and shot 200 rds. Was worried the side screws would work loose under recoil but they have not. No movement noted, seemed stable. Upsides are: no modification is needed to bolt knob, unobstructed access to reloading (unlike other optics mounts), wide field of view (scout variety), easy to restore to iron sight configuration, and relatively lightweight. Don't know if long term it will be just as good but indications are positive.
Rock Solid Mount for the Mosin!(14/11/2011)
Easy to install. High quality machined anodized aluminum base with steel rings in flat black finish. The finish matches my 1939 Mosin 91/30 almost perfect. Comes with well machined 1" steel ring(different than picture above) which really limits your choice on red dots BUT not a problem...I went with a "scout" scope. S&K may offer a set of 30mm rings but not sure. The rings were oiled in a bag but had a touch of surface rust that cleaned up easy. Holding zero so far (about 100+/- rounds fired). All screws got purple Locktite on install and everything is still rock solid! Wishlist: 30mm rings or Weaver base option but still a great mount!!!
Very excellent(22/04/2012)
Everything fit right and was a perfect drop in. Would definitely buy again if I would ever need to.
solid so far(07/03/2014)
Firstly, I'd like to mention that this mount arrived in 3 days! At least a day to 3 faster than some of the 'other guys'. Cleaned it up good. C-clamp. Punch and hammer. Small files. This block would have fit perfectly if it weren't for the rough machining inside the rear sight mount. With a little filing, it fits nice and tight. Blue thread locked all the screws. Mounted a Hi Lux for the .308 on it. I like it alot! The mount is very sturdy. Taking it to the range tomorrow. I'll do another follow up review. Thanks Brownells.
awesome(08/03/2014)
Follow up review. Mounted on a 91/30 from PW Arms, dated 1931. Put a scout scope on it, took it to the range today, and it performed flawless.ly. This is a very stout mounting platform. Sturdy. No loose screws although I put blue thread locked on them. I feel good about this mount, would buy another. Thanks again Brownells!
