Compact, Field-Ready Kits That Go Wherever Your Rifle Goes

Our crew of tactical weapons experts developed these fine 5.56mm cleaning kits to give the M16/AR-15 shooter a handy, carry-along system that fits snug in the storage compartment of A-1/A-2 buttstocks. Standard Kit includes a government-type 5-piece cleaning rod (with loop), bronze bore brush, bronze chamber brush, double-ended parts cleaning brush, and a heavy Nylon pouch tapered correctly for a rattle-free fit. Deluxe Kit adds a solvent-resistant Nylon chamber brush, and 25-Pak of mil-spec cleaning patches. Detailed instructions in both kits guide you through the cleaning process.

Tight fit (01/12/2009)

This kit is your standard GI cleaning kit, with added patches, oil, and a nylon chamber brush. It was a very tight fit in my stock and hard to remove. Since it would be for "emergency" field cleaning I removed both chamber brushes, put them in my cleaning kit that stays at home/camp and added a loop of parachute cord to assist in removal.

Not so deluxe (06/01/2013)

If i had it to do over again Id go with the standard cleaning kit. It is great quality, but the deluxe kit's only real benefit is the nylon brush. Patches are easily made out of an old shirt. And the oil... was not as described. Instead of a small bottle, which would be very useful, it has a tear open sample pack of oil. Could not be reclosed so basicly useless in the field. Except for a one time lube.

Simple and effective (30/03/2010)

Same kit I've used for years in the military. Not fancy but works. Other rods and kits can do better but will cost much more. Be aware the rod sections only mate with 8-36 military thread brushes.

Just bought this kit the other day. Its pretty basic kit but gets the job done. Good for a entry kit for anyone starting out and also good for a grab and go cleaning kit.

A little fragile (07/01/2011)

I bought it to keep in my A2 stock for field use, works well enough for it.

I added a few tools to the kit and removed the brush for more space.
Works great as a basic field cleaning kit

The metal used in the cleaning rod is quite brittle and breaks easily.

The cleaning rod handle went first (let someone use the end to remove a squib from a pistol) and I broke the threaded end off of the middle portion.

It broke like a glass rod, no flex, just snapped with out much pressure but more than normal, and it left a jagged sharp end.

It pretty much broke while misusing the cleaning rod, just for a field piece I would like it to be a bit stronger and have a bit more spring or strength to it.

Excellent Quality - all pieces (15/08/2011)

The AR cleaning kit has become a basic takedown cleaning kit and THIS AR Cleaning Kit is one of the best. NorMag Gunsmithing purchased several cleaning kits of this type - mainly to compare the quality and value. This Brownells AR/M16 Buttstock Cleaning Kit was by far the highest quality. The bag had MADE IN USA label. The chamber brush was of the best loop attached type not the crimped type that sometimes fails. The handle looked truely MilSpec. Another brand (DPMS) had oversized handle that allowed the rod to fall out of the handle - Yikes! Buy this Brownells cleaning kit.

Good kit (17/11/2011)

This kit will do just fine cleaning your AR-15 rifle, and it will fit perfectly in an A2 stock compartment. The items included appear to be good quality. The nylon pouch fits all the items without hassle and even has room for a front sight adjustment tool to fit in the pouch as well. I recommend this to anyone who needs a simple, basic AR-15 kit. Sure, a fancier one may include more stuff, but is more really better? I guess that's for you to decide, but I personally think this contains just what you need to get the job done. If you do not have an A2 stock on your AR-15, you should still get this kit and keep it laying around somewhere.

Does what it's supposed to do! (21/05/2012)

I used this the day I received it in the mail. My only complaint is that the whole kit does not fit into the nylon pouch very well as the chamber brush is too big to fit, once the rod pieces are in there. Other than that it worked like a charm! The rod pieces are made of sturdy metal, not like the aluminum ones you find in your average store-bought cleaning kit. If you are concerned about scratching your receiver or your bore...get a bore guide.

Quality field kit (06/07/2012)

Was impressed with the quality of the kit.Much better than the imported kits Ive seen from other places.
The USGI rod is a absolute must have for anyone that owns an AR15.Works on just about any firearm in a pinch.
Using a single rod section with the patch loop works well as a pistol rod as well.

Does the Job (30/08/2012)

The Standard kit will not come with all that is shown in the picture. No swabs, no bottle, just the very basics. It will however get the job done just fine, assuming you have some spare swabs or a tshirt you don't mind tearing up.

Standard cleaning kit for AR15 in small package. Unfortunately quality is quite poor.

I've had several of the typical buttstock kits for ARs from other mfg. None of them were very good, the rod sections never lined up. This Brownells kit had a great rod, all the sections lined up so perfectly I'm not afraid to actually use it! Good job Brownells!

Don't bother with the cheap kits from eBay or Amazon, this one, from Brownells is actually worth owning!
