Forged from 7075-T6 aluminum, the Aero Precision M5 308 Upper Receiver is a great platform for a big-bore AR build. Precision machined to Aero Precision’s specifications, the upper features M4 feedramps and a matte black hard coat anodized Mil 8625 Type 3 Class 2 finish. DPMS pattern takedown holes (.2795”) allows for compatibility with a wide range of lower receivers. Receiver is compatible with standard DPMS pattern 308 components, including lowers, bolt carriers, charging handles and barrels. Comes with forward assist and ejection port cover installed. Works with DPMS high profile handguards.

I have always wanted a functional forward assist and discovered the one on my rifle was not ! with this receiver, however ,you do have to buy Aeros bolt (with assist cuts) or have a bolt with the assist cuts in the bolt body matching Aeros, now if you do not wish to have the assist, but just want a really nice looking receiver no problem, your existing bolt will work it just wont work with the assist and you can always buy the bolt BODY later ! I love this receiver, Nice it swapped out nice, buy one! these people make a beautiful product! and the price is good too !

Loose bore at receiver extension. Wouldn't even pin to my DPMS pattern fixture block. The ejection port door was so hard to close I had to punch the darn thing.

This receiver is of good quality. It is finished well. The only issue I can say that I have is that the ejection port cover is very tight on closing. Not necessarily a bad thing. It fit my DPMS lower with next to no play. Assembly was quick and easy. You can't go wrong with Aero.

I have not completed the build yet, but this is what I know thus far. The LaRue barrel I am installing fits very snuggly, which I like! The ejection port cover is junk, it will have to be replaced. I need something that works all the time, this one is unusable for most people, my customers would not be happy with this one.... At all!!! But for the price, it is a very nice upper....

great fit to my Aero M5 lower. (23/05/2015)

I Used a DPMS berrel and UTG pro slim handguard went together perfect. I am super happy with my build. Nice finish, good fit to Aero M5 lower. The Dust Cover Is A Little Hard To Close Like Other Have Said But I Think It Will Wear in Just right. It had a tighter berrel extension fit, and BCG fit than the DPMS upper it replaced.

I used this upper receiver to build a new complete upper for my DPMS lower receiver. Fit is snug with less play than the factory DPMS upper.

I can't say the lines of both receivers match perfectly but the fit is excellent.

Good so far but not perfect (26/09/2015)

The distance between the pivot and take down pins is slightly off. Trying to pin the discrepancy down. Its not the lower either. Other uppers drop in no problem. They fit together its just rear pin has to be tapped to finish seating. Emphasize "tap" not "beat"

Pins Holes Off, did not fit JD Machine (03/10/2016)

My upper looked great but the Pins Holes were off, did not fit my JD Machine .308 Lower, but a DPMS upper fits my lower perfect.

Does Not Fit CMMG MK3 Lower (28/11/2016)

This upper will not fit a DPMS CMMG MK3 Lower. The Rear take-down pin is just slightly off and would only fit with some filing.

Well built (22/10/2017)

I only tried it on a DPMS lower. It required slight filing at the lug, but once the filing was done, the fit was tight with no movement, and therefore, accuracy is enhance. It does not require a lot of filing so don't go over board on filing the hole on the lug. The take down pin was easy to push back and fourth. Compared to my DPMS upper/lower set, the fit was much better after slight adjustment. I fitted a criterion 20 inch barrel on there with no problem.

Good Results for Me (07/08/2018)

I mated this Aero M5 receiver to a Faxon Pencil Bbl, and Brownell's 078-102-004, BCG. Dust cover works. Forward assist works , haven't needed to use it. This upper hooks up to a Noreen lower I finished milled and anodized with no slop issues. No problems, no failures to report. Mine has a good anodize job on it too.
