GFR 5.56x45 NATO Stratomatch Rifle The Geissele Freedom Rifle (GFR) Stratomatch Rifle features the latest weapon technology, available exclusively from Geissele Automatics. Designed and Engineered from the ground up, the GFR is the next evolution of the AR15 platform. The GFR Stratomatch rifle features a 416R stainless steel cut-rifled barrel, precision machined in-house. One of the engineering innovations Geissele has accomplished for these barrels is the barrel extension, now with feed ramps specifically designed for the 5.56x45 NATO cartridge. This new barrel extension is also elongated to extend into the receiver, which improves accuracy by providing a more rigid, monolithic interface between the barrel and receiver. These improvements ensure reliable chambering and prevent any deformation of projectiles. The optimized gas system and Geissele Strato Gas Block ensure reliability and optimal performance in extreme conditions and heavy use. The GFR platform of rifles features the exclusive GFR-E trigger. This trigger is an enhancement of the SSAE trigger with a standard M4 curve. Engineered with precision in mind, the GFR-E provides the smooth first stage and predictably crisp break shooters have come to expect from a Geissele two-stage trigger. Even with minimal lubrication, the proprietary Nanoweapon Coating enhances corrosion resistance, keeps the fire control group running smoothly, and breaks cleanly — even after heavy use. At the heart of the GFR platform is the Nanoweapon Coated 5.56x45 NATO Reliability Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group (REBCG) with features that provide increased corrosion and wear resistance, increased carrier stability, and optimized cartridge-feeding performance. The 5.56x45 NATO REBCG has a chrome lined gas key with properly torqued and staked screws, advanced tool steel cam pin, extended carrier rails, and a purpose-built 5.56x45 NATO GFR Stressproof Bolt. The bolt is forged – not machined from bar stock – to optimize the grain structure of the specially developed Carpenter 158+ steel. This is conducive to cleaner material that is also more resistant to fatigue. Each bolt is not only the subject of thorough quality inspection at each stage but is also high-pressure tested (HPT) and magnetic-particle inspected (MPI). These resilient bolts are designed to significantly increase the service life of the 5.56x45 NATO semi-auto platform bolt, allowing it to reach the full potential of the cartridge. Even the upper receiver itself has been improved upon. The GFR uppers have properly heat-treated steel cam races riveted into place intended to provide steel-on-steel contact with the cam pin while the system is cycling. This prolongs the upper’s lifespan while maintaining tolerances. The forward assist has also been relocated further forward which allows for more working space to operate the charging handle while a magnified optic is installed up top on the 1913 Picatinny rail. Each GFR comes equipped with the ambidextrous Geissele Super Charging Handle to assure the user has proper purchase of the dual-contoured levers when charging the weapon. The Swavvy muzzle brake on the Stratomatch Rifle increases accuracy and mitigates recoil by splitting and deflecting gases away from the projectile while redirecting the gases backward and to the sides, clear of the shooter. The MK18 Super Modular Rail with center alignment tab comes standard on the GFR and mates with a notch in the upper receiver, just as on the Super Duty lineup. This feature removes any chance of handguard rotation during use and ensures confidence in anything mounted to the 1913 Picatinny top or the radial M-LOK sections. The MK18 also benefits from an RRS ARCA-lok compatible bottom rail. Similar to the Super Duty line, the GFR lower receivers are precision machined from forged 7075-T6 aluminum and use all of the familiar high-quality Geissele lower parts such as the Maritime Bolt Catch, checkered takedown pins, and stainless magazine catch. Every GFR has a non-adjustable spring-loaded tensioning plunger installed to provide a tight fit with the upper receiver, which mitigates wobble when the upper and lower are mated together. The magazine well has also been improved with a more aggressive flare that has been optimized for use with Geissele’s dedicated 6MM ARC magazines. Every GFR also comes with a Super 42 Buffer system installed, which provides silky-smooth shooting right out of the box, and a new reduced-angle Geissele Grip to provide users with a more modern primary point of contact. The GFR Stratomatch rifles are precision match rifles, so they are equipped with the Magpul PRS Lite Stock. It features a low-profile rubber butt-pad that is adjustable for height and provides a tremendously stable interface with the shooter’s shoulder. The PRS Lite offers multiple attachment options for slings, including two QD sling swivel cups in the front and rear, as well as a 1.25” ambidextrous footman’s loop.
